Relay for Life Retreat

During the past weekend from October 18th to 20th, UBCCA RFL attended the Relay for Life Retreat in Toronto. Along with 47 other student leaders from 24 different post-secondary schools,  we spent three days learning about fundraising, Relay for Life, and the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society.

This is our first time attending the Relay for Life Retreat hosted by the Canadian Cancer Society and we are thrilled to become a part of the Relay for Life Family. It was an inspiring weekend full of training, team bonding and sharing. We learned about how to improve event logistics, promote marketing, implement fundraisers and manage our budget. We also explored our own leadership traits and how to adopt the strengths and weaknesses of our team.

The Relay for Life Family bonded over morning hikes, ice breaker games, drinks at the campfires and networking sessions. We also planned our own Pop-up Relay in a span of one hour and had our own luminary ceremony. It was an emotional and vulnerable night as it reminded us who and why we are relaying for.

Our guest speaker, Peter Katz performing his own written songs and sharing with us about his songwriting journey to inspire others.

The ones who showed great initiatives and exceptional leadership skills throughout the retreat. They were voted amongst the group and resulted in a 3-way tie! From left to right: Sarah (UWindsor), Jake (UWindsor), and Mikayla (Brock).
