About Our Candidates
Biographies

President
Handles club organization, meetings, and direction.

Adam Mesa

As the current President of UBC Cancer Association, I’ve learned a lot about how to run the club this past year, as well as gained know-how for how to run the organization within our the club! To this respect, in the upcoming year I want to focus on fundraising (through exam packs for popular courses) and focusing on creating a community within UBC for people affected by cancer.

Treasurer
Sole signing officer in charge of club finances.

Simran Manhas

This year I am applying for Treasurer position in this club. I am looking for a way to transfer my writing, event planning skills, and public relations expertise to a position. Being a treasurer can compliment my goals in my ways. Running for this position will require effective time management, job organization, proper communication and listening skills which will be beneficial for my future plans. This position is appealing since it would provide the opportunity for me to enhance club relationships with AMS group and other members in the club. Since I am familiar with club and its positions, I can freely communicate with everyone and work through issues regarding any matter to avoid any miscommunication or misunderstanding.

VP Marketing
Oversees all marketing and the committee, and maintains the club website.

Eric Liu

Hello! My name is Eric and I am excited to be running for VP Marketing for the upcoming year! I am the current Interim VP Marketing for UBC Cancer Association and I would love to continue to support this cause as a part of the executive team! As the current Interim VP, I am familiar with the operations of the club as well as expectations of this role. During my time in this position, I have acquired experience and skills related to effective and innovative marketing, leading to maximum exposure of the club and its events. Furthermore, I am proficient in editing software such as Photoshop and After Effects, allowing me to create eye-catching graphics and anything related to advertising.

VP External
Liaison with outside organizations in charge of acquiring sponsorships.

Cassandra Federico

I joined the club in September of this year in hopes of becoming a part of a group of people who shared a collective goal of fighting against cancer. I have been personally effected by cancer in my life, so the cause is something very close to me. I found that the club is filled with like-minded individuals, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in it so far and would love to continue moving forward.

I was lucky enough to become one of the co-vp externals this year, which I have enjoyed thoroughly. I feel that I am a good candidate for this position because I gained experience in it this year through accumulating sponsorship and collaborations for the club. I also am experienced in external communications in professional settings through previous work experience. For instance, I worked at a busy ski resort during high school, and a large part of my job was answering customer’s inquiries via email. Lastly, I am majoring in English and am enrolled in a dual degree with Sauder, so my educational experience at UBC is relevant to the skills required to succeed in this role.

Simran Manhas

I believe that I have gained some valuable skills through my previous position in this club that would make me a good candidate for the positions. As an executive, I have handled multiple responsibilities in a timely manner and made great connections throughout the year! I truly think that I can use my previous experience to bring different ideas and help to ensure that the club runs effectively. As a VP External, I have been able to contact relevant parties to organize events and take full responsibility. Moreover, I am willing to put in the time required to make better connections across the campus.

Tiger Zhao

Extensive teamwork/leadership experience being president of CSP and CSP mentorship club for 2 years, and being a part of FYC for SUS. My goal for becoming and exec is to contribute more to decision making and direction of the club, as well as to make strong connections with other club members. I consider myself to be an easy-going, relaxed person, however I take my responsibilities very seriously. I take pride in everything I do, and as an executive I will be sure to give my best in everything I contribute to the club.

Hana Zhang

My name is Hana and I am running for VP Internal because I believe that our volunteers are essential to the success of UBCCA and deserve the utmost guidance, support, and recognition. As VP Internal, I aim to:

  1. Expand volunteer recruitment to run larger events and increase our presence on campus,
  2. Define responsibilities for volunteers that is enjoyable and meaningful for personal-development,
  3. Create a safe and tight-knit community by hosting fun and interactive socials!

As a Residence Advisor, I have extensive experience with creating community and planning social events. My past involvements in leading the cancer society in high school and volunteering for UBCCA have armed me with the skills to succeed in a leadership position.
