UBC’s Cuts for Cancer is an annual event in which students and the UBC community are given the unique opportunity to help those in the fight against cancer. Hair donations of 8″ or longer will be transformed into wigs for children who suffer long-term medical hair loss at BC Children’s Hospital, and funds raised are donated to the Canadian Cancer Society, where they will be put toward cancer research and treatments.
Cuts for Cancer is done with On The Fringe Hair Design, whose hairdressers donate their time and skill to deliver professional, top-notch haircuts to all participants!
Cuts for Cancer is UBC Cancer Association’s biggest event of the year, and we look forward to seeing all of you to come out and participate! Don’t have long hair to donate? Just want a regular haircut? Don’t want a haircut but still want to support us? Everyone is welcome! For those donating 8″ or more, it’s free, but for others, you can pay for a sweet haircut and have the proceeds go to the Canadian Cancer Society!

Where? The Nest, On The Fringe Salon (Lower level, around the corner from CITR)
When? Monday, March 6th, 2017 from 10:00am – 5:00pm.

Reservations (optional).
You can reserve your hair cut slot time ahead of time (Just make sure to arrive on time, or we may give away your spot)! But, you don’t need to reserve ahead of time! We anticipate the majority of event-goers on the day-of to be walk-ins! Simply come up to our booth on the day of, and we’ll get you a spot with one of the lovely On The Fringe hairdressers! Please note that half of the available spots are saved for walk-ins, so if you can’t reserve your desired time, you can get the spot by being a walk-in!
If you would like to reserve a spot in advance, please shoot our facebook page a message and we’ll put you down for that time! The time slots are every half hour during the event time.
Raffle
We have $100 worth of hair products to give away! Get your raffle tickets by donation for $3, or when you donate 8″ or more. Hard hold gels, sprays, and other professional styling products up for grabs!
We’ll take down your email and email the winner!

Do you only take virgin hair donations? (My hair has been dyed once)
Hi Nina,
The company we work with (Eva & Co. Wigs) says that “Hair should not be currently coloured or permed”, so if your hair was dyed long in the past and you have 8″ of undyed hair, you’re still good to donate your hair! If not, you could get a regular haircut or styling and the proceeds from that are donated!
How can one reserve a spot ahead of time?
Shoot our facebook page a message with the time (ie. 10:00, 10:30 … 4:30) that you’d like to reserve.
I have a bit grey hair, can it be used for wig?
Most definitely! Although you need to be donating 8″ of hair or more for it to go towards a wig (and for your haircut to be free).
If you’re not donating 8″ or more, you can pay for a haircut and styling, and the proceeds go to the Canadian Cancer Society! 🙂
